Welcome to the UGC by Bishop Mani

Welcome to the Website of the Universalist Gnostic Communion. Please take a moment to listen to (or read below) the welcome message. It will introduce us; give you an idea of what we do, and why we do it.

Thank you
Bishop Mansell Christian Gilmore

The best way to understand what we do and why we do it is to explain the significance of our name – Universalist Gnostic Communion.

Universalist is a term used in a few different ways. Christian Universalism proclaims universal salvation and love of GOD. Modern Universalism claims that there is a common thread, or essence in all religious and spiritual traditions. And Hindu Universalism tells us that each tradition may have a piece of the truth, but no tradition has the whole of the truth.

Most of the members of this communion embrace a spirituality based on the scriptures found in the Nag Hamadi Library. Most, but not all of those, teach Universal Salvation in one way or another. In this way, Christian Universalism applies to some of us.

But it is the Modern and the Hindu forms of universalism which our name implies. The common thread in all spiritual and religious traditions is the human condition. And no single tradition has a claim on the whole of the truth. We need to learn from each other, fill the gaps in our education and experience, and work together – with the understanding that we are all human and fallible.

Gnostic is a term used to designate those who seek Gnosis. We define Gnosis as the development of full awareness and knowledge of the whole of the self, and direct, personal, and intimate relationship with GOD. You are free to define GOD as you will. The communion’s definition of GOD is available on the Basics of Universalist Spirituality Page.

Communion is a term which implies a group of equals working together for a common purpose. The UGC works at maintaining a non-condemning approach to interreligious dialogue and fellowship, with the goal of mutually supporting each individual’s relationship with GOD and spiritual and psychological growth.
